The pneumococcal vaccine is available this winter for people aged 65 and over. It helps protect against the more serious consequences of pneumococcal infection, which can cause septecaemia, meningitis and more severe forms of pneumonia. This will be available from doctor's surgeries and can be given at the same time as the flu jab. It is a one off vaccine.
Ian Graham talks about when he had a really bad chest infection and was hospitalised because he couldn't breathe. He welcomes the new vaccine which he was given in a pilot scheme in Dumfries. He feels it has made a difference to him and encourages others to take up the offer.
