All topics in "Have Your Say" will in some way boil down to money. I am 100% sure that any topic/debate/issue/service etc could be improved if Scottish Government had no links in that the money would be available to sevices etc, instead of a new "Playhouse" for themselves that is already 10 times ofer estimate!!! |

"Internet football team managment" I'm the manager and orginiser of a group of Partick Thistle fans who meet up on saturdays for a game of football before going to see the full SPL match. It's always a good laugh, and it's brought a lot of people together. Theres always a lot of good stories and I think the IFA league could benefit from this, letting people know about the way the team works etc. www.theharrywraggs.com |

Scottish Parliament Having lead the Campaign for a Hospice In Moray, I was delighted to be invited in February of this year top address the Cross Party in Palliative Care. This opportunity was amazing, allowing our Committee right into the heart of the Scottish Executive.I do not believe this would have happened in Parliament. |

Weight is a male issue too
I'm aware that at this time of year a lot of focus is made on women losing the Xmas pounds. Men are forgotten about a lot of times in features such as LK Today or the talk shows.I am a leader (10 meetings a week!) for Weight Watchers and lost 5 stone on the programme. We have many male members now who are doing well. I think its important that men look at a healthy lifestyle and that the media brings back the balance, especially in the days of men becoming more appearance conscious.
Best regards
Allan Blackey

Health awareness regarding Tattooing
For the past 7 years, I have e-mailed, 'phoned, written and personally requested from various ministers and council officials, to help introduce a monitoring and registration scheme to safeguard the public from "rogue" or unskilled tattooists. I trust it will come as no surprise that my attempts have, to date, yielded absolutely no action. There is a very great danger that being Tattooed by someone without the requisite skills in health and safety or cross-contamination control may lead you to regret your art rather than enjoy it. As is usual in Scotland, if it isn't happening in Edinburgh, it appears not to matter, as the capital is the only area in Scotland with a registration and monitoring scheme in situ. While I do not wish to appear to be scaremongering, the situation is so serious, and so much valuable time has been already lost, that I fear with new "studios" opening every week, some without even the most rudimentary knowledge of the Art, that Scotland is in danger of suffering from a potential health time-bomb where hepatitis in particular is concerned. As this is a potentially virulent malaise, I feel it is imperative that the registration and monitoring scheme in place in the capital is extended, without further delay, to cover the entire country. Unfortunately, for the responsible Tattoo-Artists and their clients, all their hard work is in danger of being for nothing if this disgrace is allowed to continue. If the present government are genuinely as concerned about our health welfare as they profess to be, then why, in 7 years of campaigning, have I only ever been encouraged ONCE. (And credit where credit is due, it was the Environmental Health Officer from North Ayrshire who listened and sympathised.) Also, the law states, quite unequivocally, that it is illegal to Tattoo ANYONE under the age of 18 years; and yet, on an almost weekly basis I hear from parents that it is (sic) "Ok if I say it is, I'm the parent". This is NOT the case. It is NOT your choice whether your child is Tattooed, the law has already made this very clear, and for the purpose of being Tattooed, the equation is quite simple: You MUST be 18 years of age or older. There are many reasons why this is a good law, some moral, some ethical, and others for the good of the health of the individual. However, there are NO good reasons for Tattooing anyone who is legally under the age to be Tattooed. Many apologies for what must seem, at first glance, a personal rant, but I feel that time is of the essence in bringing this important health issue to the attention of the general public. |

there is nothing in your topic list that, in my opinion, is specific to Scotland. Maybe you do have and I have just missed them. But if there was a topic called "the disgrace of the new scottish parliament cost" or "scots MPs voting on english affairs", now that would be talking scotland |

Reliance Security
The Justice Minister Cathy Jameson stated that the release in error of a convicted killer was "inexcusable".With that in mind a resignation in the higher echelons of either Reliance Security or/and the Justice department is inevitable. To sweep the whole matter away with the "initial teething troubles" will only attempt to excuse the inexcusable.
At Glasgow Sherrif court today another prisoner was thought to have been prematurely released but later found locked in a van. The salient point is Reliance had no idea where a prisoner was for a period of time. |

Holyrood Opening
The proposal to dignify the farce that has dogged the building of the Scottish Parliament with some fanfare on the opening day is totally offensive. The buildings janitor should just open the back door on the day in question and all the MSPs as they shuffle through can reflect on thier own involvement in the fiasco where appropriate. The "back door" method would also be symbolic as to how most of the decisions about the building were taken.
The cost of the opening would cost £2,262,750 and not £210,00 as the presiding officer states if we use the formula that increases the £40 million start cost to the now £431 million at least completion cost. I firmly believe this will top £500 million but of course won't be anyone's fault. |

Hospital Supermatron/MRSA
What needs to be done to help eliminate this bug;
- Reintroduce inhouse cleaning with each ward having their own cleaners.
- Reintroduction of staff uniform laundering service which would ensure all staff have properly laundered uniforms.
- The application of stiff reprimands to all staff found to be travelling to and from duty wearing their uniforms, which is a common occurance even within ICU wards.
- The allocation of staff lockers outwith the ward area with hand washing facilities alongside.

Drug Rehab Treatment
Why has no funding been supplied for research into Ibogaine (a detox agent known about since the 60's). This "Wonder drug" has proved effective in treating opiate, alcohol, and tobacco addiction as well as psychiatric disorders associated with addictive behaviour. If a drug existed that could have the same potential influence on cancer, it would already be in mass production. Information on Ibogaine can be found at ibogaine.co.uk or ibogaine.com |

Post-MI Cardiac Health Care
Four years ago I had a heart attack and received excellent care - all on the NHS.
As well as excellent care in intensive care and in the ward afterwards I would particularly like to comment on the REHAB COURSE at Astley Anslie Hospital in Edinburgh. It changed my life. In addition to planned exercises the talks gave us excellent advice and support on diet, relaxation, healthy heart, work, stress management and much more besides. I use some aspect of the course every day.
Since doing the course I have done many things I always wanted to including scuba-diving, flying a micto-lite, horse-riding, painting lessons (this led to some of my work being hung in an exhibition at the Edinburgh College of Art), travelling to Venice, Rome, Moscow, Berlin and an unforgettable trip to Antarctica (swam in a volcano warmed pool) - all with the help of things I learned on the Rehabilitation Course after my heart attack.
I think our country has a really bad record on heart disease but people need to know that help is there to make life better by changing habits at work and play and with diet. There is also much slagging off against the NHS and health care in Scotland but things are changing - and can change if people make an effort to use help on offer like at Astley Ainslie. It is a terrific programme run by wonderful people - AND IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE!
People should know!

Can somebody please explain to me why a law was passed on the offence of dog owners not cleaning up after their pets in Public Areas when they have done their needs, and not enforcing it? Most Local Authorities provide bins to dispose of it. Which many choose to ignore. Its not that big a deal to do!!.. If my 8 year old grandson can do it so can all other dog owners!! Poverty in parts of Africa
I just want to tell you that in the UK we are quite lucky if you compare our lives to lives in Africa. People there die every day because they don't have enough food or water or no home, so I want you to know you are lucky. There are some children which only have a week to live in Africa. Most people in Africa have only rags to wear every second of their life and some people have nothing to wear.

During my school years THE education was there, but I didnt take it. Later on in life married with 2 children I always felt something was missing. I enrolled at my local college, took standard grades this (was identified as the somthing missing I felt) Later on when my children were at an age to look after themselves I applied for nursing.I qualified in 1996 and graduated at Glasgow university. ( ME WHO NEVER TOOK THE EDUCATION WHEN IT WAS OFFERED TO ME ON A PLATE ALL THOSE YEARS AGO) In 1999 I gained a BSc in health studies at Paisley University and in 2002 the hospital funded me to due a postgraduate/masers at Cardiff university. adult literacy
i have been an adult literacy tutor for 5 years and get sad when i deal with people who have been put off 'learning' due to bad experiences when young. i have had intelligent learners who have been taken out of mainstream education and put into special needs schools because they are dyslexic. learning is not about certificates or books but about the confidence to access opportunities and chances. I work with Asylum seekers and they access all opportunities on offer and appreciate the diverse range of learning opportunities available. We all know more than we know we know and its wonderfull when i see a learners confidence in their own abilities grow. some people have to learn to learn but once you enjoy learning for learnings sake it can make drastic differences to peoples expectations and aspirations and this filters down to their families. |

Teenage Cancer
Each day in the UK six teenagers are told they have cancer. In England there are special teenage friendly units in NHS hospitals which are more appropriate for their treatment. This is thought to increase their chance of survival by fifeteen per cent.
We in the Glasgow Committee of the Teenage Cancer Trust are working to get units for young people in Scotland and there is now to be a unit in the Beatson Oncology Centre at Gartnavel for which we are still in the process of raising funds. However we need not only to raise funds but also awareness amongst the teenagers and young adults. It is our aim to further increase the provision with additional units in Yorkhill, Edinburgh and in Aberdeen as soon as is possible.

School Closures
West Dunbartonshire Council have embarked on a School's Regeneration Programme to address some of the delapatated schools in this area, Schools fit for 21st Century Education is their aim.Unfortunatley we are in our second consultation and no further forward.
West Dunbartonshire Council don't seem to have any set criteria for closure.
First they picked 2 primary schools in seperate communities devided by a river to amalgamate with a secondry school on a "super campus" with over 1500 pupils to include 2 nurseries, pupils from aged 3 to 18 on one campus, deemed to be acceptible by our council. Both Communities were against the amalgamation in the consultation so West Dunbartonshire Council took one of the schools out and replaced it with another school on the same side of the river only it is 2 miles away,in a good state of repair and has 92% capacity and an excellant recent HMIe report. There are schools within West Dunbartonshire that need over £250,000 spent on them just to make them wind and water tight yet they pick 2 schools which have low maintenance costs.
It looks like this council chooses the cheap option to regenerate it's schools estate. By the way they have £100 million to improve the schools and there will be NO SHARED CAMPUS even though it's what some communities want. |

We've all rececently heard about the break out of legionella at baxters in aberdeen!?! well 5 weeks ago my dad was fighting fit and who knows why or how but he caught legionella. This then brought on pneumonia and all organs (including his heart) were failing! We all thought he as a gonner. The Western Infirmary ICU team have done a great job to fix him. He's now in Renal unit..but not having dialysis anymore...coz kidneys are kicking in...he's totally doing so well (albeit he is soooo bored and fed up) and would love to sing. Karaoke Jim is my dad....known by lots.... but legionella led to a near fatality...and...legionella is so rare ... legionella pneumonia so very rare....dont particularly want to be on TV...just want people to know this.. and also people that have family/friends in ICU...dont please worry .. coz they do such a great job. Community Involvement
HELLO! My name is Wendy Buckley. I have work for Standard Life for 19 years but I am currently out doing Community involvement for 4 months with a Children's charity in the Greater Pilton Area, "Pilton Youth and Children's Project" (PYCP) which has been in existence for the past twenty years.
My Job description while I am here at PYCP is to publicise this project City Wide. Locally the project is well know and well thought of but we are now looking into publicity City Wide.
We have produced a DVD and funky yearly report with comment from the young people. We are currently updating our Web Page.
PYCP is a voluntary organisation with charitable status providing community based support for your people in the Greater Pilton Area. They provide a variety of activities and opportunities for young people ages 5-18 ranging from after school clubs, outdoor activities, groundwork, specialist projects and individual support work. They also have an Employment and Training worker who can support young people to access training curses, work experience placements and employment.
The project has a child friendly atmosphere, our facilities include a full size games hall, pool tables, sports equipment, art room, sort play area and a cafe.
On this Community involvement Placement it has given me a great opportunity to see how the Charity sector works different from the finical sector. Although I am not working directly with the children and young people at the charity I feel my skills and my involvement are contributing greatly toward helping the charity in another way.
Community Involvement it something that more companies should think of getting involved with. If your company does have the opportunity people they should consider taking it up. Even if you do not have the qualification to work in certain charities the skills you have gained from you day to day working will be of beneficial for any placement.

aberdeen beach boy racers
This is just getting out of hand now. It's not just young drivers that race down there. I know people that race down there and ok.. the majority of them are young but a few of them have a wife and kids who are in their mid fortys. How can you call this anti- socail! The government cant let anyone have fun anymore. Where else are they supposed to go. The government dont know the racers, they only want to have a good time and they are not spoiling it for residents. I live quite close to the stretch of road where they race and it is not that noisy. How are people going to get to work if you close it down eh? Bet you lot never thought about that. Look... the point is that they have been racing for a long time, people have only started complaining since you built them new flats. They are all posh and rich who live there so no wonder why they are complaining. They are way to posh and snobby!I know most of the guys who race down there and most of them are close mates.. if you carry on saying your gona close it they will get worse and go somewhere else which is dangerous. That stretch of road is not dangerous the government are just getting paranoid now. The only people that are complaining are the posh snobby idiots that have just moved in that have not got used to it yet. Grow up governmet and treat young people with some respect for once in your lives!!!

I don't think the government realise how many families are affected because of drink and instead of all night drinking they should put the closing hours back to ten p.m.instead of encouraging them to stay out all night |

Where was the mother when the child was on a nightout in Edinburgh, getting drunk and having sex? My child is the same age and I would be absolutley devistated if she became pregnant. And the mother should take responsibility of this situation..... She is only a child. Who will support this child? Not the 11 year old or the 15 year old. It will be down to the parents and the goverment. I think this is absoultley disgusting |

I have an eleven year old son and I can assure you smoking and drinking is not as issue and I know where he is AT ALL TIMES. Considering the mistakes made in the past by the Social Services they should now move on this one. Don't tell me they haven't been involved with this family. Someone must have noticed what was, and probably still is, going on. This constitutes abuse in my eyes!

World Cup/England team
As a Scot, doing business as I do with England (and Scotland), I am grieved to hear how we Scots are making such an issue of NOT supporting the English team. The comments I'm receiving from English clients about how Scotland will support any team EXCEPT England is causing much resentment and will, without doubt, affect business between the two countries, not just in commerce, but also in tourism. I find the whole trend very worrying and, knowing the passion of football supporters, I feel this attitude emanating from Scotland will bring trouble. The First Minister's comments didn't help either.
We must all get on with our neighbours and, like it or not, England is our neighbour. The trend is bordering on racism, so what are all the announcments about 'There is no place in Scotland for racism'?
If the position were reversed, the Scots would be justifiably furious.
I do hope you take this comment seriously.
Regards
C McCabe

Scotland is a Country
The main issue that is forgotten - or ignored- by the English media is that Scotland is a country. Part of Great Britain yes, but they do not seem to know the difference between England and Great Britain.Supporting England is surely not compulsory. Would they expect the French to support England? Then why should they expect the whole of Scotland to back them. All morning the NATIONAL news is full of the heatwave being experienced in England. The main headline was David Beckhams resignation as captain of the England team. Who cares north of the border? There is surely more important news happening in the nation-Britain not just England. Its time we had a Scottish GMTV. Scotland wide main news with short slots to other areas in GB instead of the other way round.

Healthy Living On the 7th August 2006 I decided to go on a diet,my eating was out of control,I felt unhealthy and I was hell to live with,I weighed 22st 2lbs.
By Christmas Day 2006 I had lost 5st 4lbs and my life has changed totally, I am so full of energy and enjoying life again, I feel wonderful.
I achieved this weight loss by eating healthier meals with lots of fruit and vegetables coupled with walking and swimming.
I intend to lose another 2 stone by the end of April this year when I will be 55 years.
Adopting a healthier lifestyle has worked for me so believe me it can work for you, its the best feeling in the world. |
